The “4390 Listens to Everyone” initiative kicks off – Training, app, and SMS to make the taxi experience easier for deaf customers.

From today, traveling by taxi will be easier and safer for deaf customers. The “4390 Listens to Everyone” initiative is launching, born from an agreement between the 4390 Taxi Florence drivers’ cooperative and ENS Florence, the Italian National Association for the Deaf. The goal is to train taxi drivers to understand the simple yet specific needs of deaf users, and to promote—through a training video—the dedicated app and alternative methods to voice calls for accessing taxi services.

4390 taxi drivers took part in eight training days during which they were instructed by ENS representatives on the precautions needed to make the taxi experience for deaf users independent and accessible. The agreement between 4390 and ENS also includes the distribution of a training video with subtitles and in Italian Sign Language (LIS), in order to inform users about the tools available for booking a taxi.

Through 4390 Taxi Florence, an SMS service is also available to all users, allowing them to specify their condition in order to receive a service tailored to their individual needs. Simply send a message to 333-8077555, and a taxi will arrive within a few minutes.
